Welcome to the 100% Awesome Podcast with April Price, you might not know it, but every result in your life is 100% because of the thought you think. And that, my friends, is 100% awesome!
Hello, podcast universe. I'm April Price, and I want to welcome you to Episode 96 of the 100% Awesome Podcast. Can you believe we are almost at a 100? Are you guys as excited as I am? Maybe not, right? Like I do realize that you might not actually be keeping track out there, right? It might not be your biggest priority, but I want you to know that I do have something special planned for that episode. And in the meantime, if any of you want to leave a review for the podcast or share the podcast on social media between now and then, I'm going to pick a couple of you and send you a box of some of my favorite things. So, you can leave a review on I-Tunes by scrolling to the bottom of the screen where you're listening, and there's this little purple link that says, leave a review, okay? You just click on that, and write your thoughts about the podcast, or if you listen on another platform, or on Spotify, you can just post the podcast on social media. Share an episode that has been helpful to you, and if you tag me in it, I will be able to see it. And I can add your name to the list for the drawing.
And in other big news that you need to know about is that applications for the next session of my group coaching program, Made for More opened last Monday. And if you want to be in that program that starts the very first day of April, and get coached by me, and change your life forever, you need to go and apply. You can find the application at my website aprilpricecoaching.com/madeformore and I will also link it in the show notes. I am so incredibly proud of this coaching program. An hour, or so I just finished another amazing call with my January group, and I am just so blown away with the coaching that is happening in there. And the amazing way that everyone else is coaching is helping everyone else in the group. Even though we all have different circumstances in our lives, I just I love how much change my clients are creating in the way that they are choosing to think. And that is starting to have an effect, is starting to change their lives. They are thinking about the people in their lives differently, they're thinking about their own capacity differently, about their habits, about the value of their businesses, about their own value. And it is such a privilege to coach them. And I am convinced that coaching in a small group is where it's at, right? This is the ideal way to coach, because when you can see your own thoughts reflected in someone else's brain, you are able to change your own thoughts so much faster.
It is such a brilliant little container, I love it so much. So, if you are ready to change your life, if you're ready to change anything about your life, really just to like love, and enjoy your life, this program is the best way to do that. I really think that all of you should just be in there. I'm only going to take ten of you, but I think that you should all be in it. So, go and apply, and start getting exactly what you want out of your life experience.
3:51
So, honestly, that was the most important thing I could tell you today, but I have been thinking about one other thing that I want to talk to you about, and I have to admit I'm a little bit fired up about it, okay? Yes, I was making the outline, I was just getting so passionate about it, so I'm going to try to tone this down for the audio, and hope that it will be worth listening to. I hope that these ideas will help you in your life. I hope it will kind of crack open your brain a little bit, and I hope that will allow you to change your life, because here's the thing, you guys, I think that if you change your life, it will change mine. I think that if all of us change the way we thought, in the way that I'm going to suggest today, I think it would change all of our lives in huge ways. And I just think that that would be awesome, okay? So, here we go!
So, I know the title today, the title of the podcast was kind of long, and clunky, and probably all wrong grammatically. I still don't know how to use who and whom, I'll be honest. Like the writer in me just cringed when I wrote the title down, right? But I couldn't figure out a better way to say it, so I'm just going to go with it. And I want to talk to you today about becoming a person, becoming the kind of person for whom anything is possible, okay? How do we become one of those people who can create lives where anything, and everything is possible? You know, the kind of people I mean, right? The other people. The other people that aren't us, right? Like for so long, I thought, okay, there's like two kinds of people in the world, there are the people who create amazing things, and have amazing lives. And not only are they disciplined, and smart, but they also have this like certain kind of magic where they can just have what they want right there, the kind of people that can turn dreams into reality. And then there were the other kind of people, the people like me, the people who didn't get that gene, or that ability, or that discipline, or the imagination. And they just have to settle for whatever life hands them, or whatever they've got, right? People like me couldn't expect much because they just didn't have what those other people had.
And what I know now and what I want you to know for sure is that all the people are the same and there isn't anything that you want that you can't have. There isn't any possibility out there that exists that you can't create, and I also want you to know that the only thing between you and any possibility out there that you want, are the thoughts you have about that possibility. And today, I just want to invite you to dream about what's possible. About what is just as possible for you, as anybody else.
So, I don't know if you guys followed the Mars rover landing a couple of weeks ago, but I have been kind of obsessed with it. And not because I'm like for sure wanting to go live on Mars someday, like, I have no desire to ever leave this planet, let's be honest. But I am just in utter awe of human beings! Like you guys, I want you to think about this for a minute. Like somebody, sometime, somewhere out there, some human being on this planet was like, you know what I think we should do, I think we should go explore another planet. I think we should go up in space and explore another planet. You know what I think we could do, I think we could figure out a way to fly and land a rover sized vehicle, two-hundred and ninety-two million miles through the vacuum of space by remote control, and land it on another planet in our solar system. Just to have a look around, just to see what's there.
8:04
And then somebody else was like, totally! We should totally do that, and we could totally do that. And this week I have just been thinking again and again about the brains in these humans, the brains that think anything is possible, and they just have to figure out how to make it happen. Like you guys, we are seriously underestimating ourselves. I used to say I can't lose weight. I can't get up early, I can't be patient, I can't control my temper. I can't get out of debt. I can't build a business, or write a book, or learn to sing. I can't. I can't. I can't. But somebody out there was like, yeah, we can go to Mars. Like, why do we think we can't? Why do we allow ourselves to ever think we can't do anything? It is a lie every time. And we are seriously limiting ourselves by telling ourselves what is possible, and not possible for ourselves. All of it is made up, we are just making it up. And the people who put the Perseverance Rover like, okay, I have to interrupt here just a minute. You guys, that name dang it. If that name perseverance doesn't just make me want to cry like, oh my gosh, Perseverance, right?
Anyway, like the people who put perseverance on Mars just made up that they could. They didn't actually know when the first person had the thought, "Yeah, we could totally do that." They didn't actually know, they just made it up. And you are making it up, whether it's possible for you, or it's not possible for you, you are just making it up. So, make up something good, make up something you want. Because here's the thing, and this is the most powerful thing I can tell you, your result line, will always match your T-line. Meaning that your result, what you create, what you do, what you land on, whatever planet, that result always matches your thoughts. It matches it. If you end up on Mars, it's because you had a thought that matches it. You had a thought that you could, that it was possible.
If you end up thirty-thousand dollars in debt, it's because you have a thought somewhere that matches that result. And that's not to say that one result is superior to another, but it means you get to pick, you get to pick your results, right? Not because it's better to go to Mars than to have debt, but because it's your life, and you get to choose, you get to choose the experience you want. And your results, whatever they are, they just match your thoughts. Any result in your life is matching a thought in your life. And so, if you want a different result, you're going to need a different thought, because that is always true. The result just matches the thought you have. And if you've been telling yourself that what you want is impossible, you'll notice that, that thought is showing up, and matching a result you are getting in your life. So, what do you want, if anything, is possible, what do you want? I'm just here today to tell you that you can have it. You just need a matching thought. The only thing you have to do is change your mind, okay?
So, how do we become a person for whom anything is possible? First, I think, is to recognize that we are already a person for whom anything is possible, that this is in fact who we are. We are children of God, which means that we are children of the most powerful creators in the universe, and we have inherited their ability to create. We have been given the gift of agency which allows us to choose our thoughts. And through those thoughts, we choose the experience of our life. All the action that we are going to take here will create our results. But all that action is just flowing downstream of what we think, okay? If we think we can go to Mars, and then we start trying, we start experimenting, we start making plans, we start doing research, we start raising funds, and getting support. But all of those actions that we need to take to get to Mars are only going to be done if we believe we can get there. If we don't believe we can get there, we're not going to take any of that action. And what that means for you is that right now you are using your agency to choose thoughts, whether or not you realize it. And those thoughts are the driving force, the creative force for any action that you are taking, or not taking.
13:18
So, to become a person for whom anything is possible, you have to use your agency to choose to believe it's possible. You have to decide it's possible. You have to choose what you want to believe about what you can do, and recognize that all these things we say we can't do, aren't the truth, they are just a thought. They're just a choice. They're just a choice we are making to think it is impossible for us. And this is one of the places that coaching made a huge difference for me. I didn't know that things weren't happening for me because I believed that things couldn't happen for me. I thought it was the other way around, but we create what we believe the most. And this is why I love coaching, and why I think all of you should be in my coaching program, because I just want to show you how all those thoughts you're choosing are, in fact, a choice. And I want to show you your power to choose something else, okay?
So, the first step in becoming a person for whom anything is possible is to believe you are. Number two, the second thing we have to do is we have to be willing to play. So, I'm sorry to keep referencing the Mars Rover project, but seriously, you guys, I have been completely wrong about this whole thing, right? Like, first of all, by the audacity of the belief they had that anything is possible, and I'm just like applying that in so many ways in my life, right? Like, I just want to have more audacity in my beliefs about what is possible for me. But the next takeaway for me was the willingness to play. And I know that that's not quite the right word for it, but stay with me for a minute.
So, I've listened to quite a few interviews about the Mars landing, and what stood out for me was the willingness of these scientists to problem solve for years, and years, and years, okay? Like a project like this, in fact, is just one long problem-solving project. These scientists and engineers, they never have the thought that it should work the first time. They assume that it's going to fail many, many, many times they expect it. They understand that their work is just one long problem-solving exercise, like one after another, right? And they don't see, like, problems, or failures as actual problems. They never expect to figure it out the first time with the first idea, or the first try, or even the thousandth, right? Their expectation is completely different than ours. But because they believe they will make it in the end, they are worried about the problems they face along the way, they know that this is just part of it.
And I told you guys that I was reading Shoe Dog, which was written by Phil Knight, who is the founder of Nike, right? And, you guys, I love that book so much! And he said something in there that really struck me. He said, "I never expected not to fail." He was like always expecting to fail. And then he was just solving one problem at a time, failing again, and solving the next problem, failing again, and solving the next problem. Like he built the Nike brand and the Nike empire by problem solving one problem at a time, and never expecting not to fail. So, I used to be one of those people that sort of thought, well, like things just aren't possible for me, right? And I sort of thought that all the people for whom it is possible that somehow it was just easier for them that they knew more, or they were smarter, or luckier, or like they don't take failure the way I do. They're not as scared as me. And I just assumed that those things, their failures and their fears, are part of the story, that they don't have that part, right? But we're wrong about that. Whatever you want, I want you to know that it's entirely, 100% possible for you, but it's probably not possible on the first try. It's probably not possible without some setbacks, and some problem solving required. And instead of seeing those failures, or setbacks as evidence that you can't have what you want, I want you to see them as an opportunity to play, to problem solve as part of the process, instead of thinking that it shouldn't be that way.
17:50
I should already know this or I'm doing it wrong, or assuming, of course, I knew I couldn't do it, right? I just want you to be curious and play. And that means changing all your shame, and judgment for yourself, for curiosity, and perseverance. There's that word again. We have to keep after it. We have to keep playing. We have to stay in possibility. And if we don't make failure mean anything bad about us, then we can just problem solve, and move to the next thing that we need to figure out. And all that figuring out, and playing, and problem solving is the work we have to do to become a person for whom things are possible, okay? To be a person for whom things are possible, it's not going to be enough to just like, passively learn, or watch someone else, or just hope that we could have the same thing to become the person for whom things are possible. You actually have to become that person, which means as you do the work to play, and problem solve, you will be changed. You will be a different person as you do hard things, as you try again, as you confront your fears, and doubts, and experience failure, and try again, and keep playing. All of that will change you to become a person for whom anything is possible. We have to do the work to become them. And this problem solving, playing full of failure work, is the way to do that.
Okay, number three, the last thing that I want to say is that to become someone for whom anything is possible, you have to make room for the magic. So, even with hundreds of the brightest, most brilliant minds on the planet trying to solve for every possible contingency plan, and running like every worst-case scenario here on Earth, right? As soon as the Mars rover was put inside the capsule of that rocket and blast into space, there were like a billion, trillion things that could go wrong. I can't even tell you everything that had to go right in order for this one ton SUV sized rover to travel through the harshest environment we know for seven- months before, like unfolding itself, and gently landing by remote control that is being guided two-hundred and ninety-two million miles away, on to a planet with a much thinner atmosphere.
And this is just my thought, but you have to make room for the magic. Like there is a little bit of miracle there. Yes, there was belief, and yes, there was work, and there was problem solving, but also there's a little bit of miracle. You work as hard as you can, and you problem solve as much as you can, you believe as deeply as you can, and then, you make room for the magic. You make room for God, or grace, or magic, or whatever you believe in to lend a hand as well. Because here's what I believe. I believe that God wants us to explore what's possible for us. I believe that when we explore what's possible for us personally, it makes the world better for someone else. It makes Earth-life better for someone else. We get to grow, and someone else gets to be blessed, and I think God is interested in all of that. I think he wants to be a partner with him in creation. I think that's why he gives us our talents, and interests, and predispositions to begin with. I always feel him nudging me to give more, to create more, to grow more, because he knows that that's best for me, and the things that I will learn as I do that. And he knows that it blesses more of his children when I do that. And he's all in for that.
So, I've probably mentioned this before, but there's this concept in Judaism called "Tikkun Olam." And the way that I think about it is like the ideas that the world is broken, and it is up to all of us to play a part in fixing it, that each of us has a part in the repair of the world, and the healing of the world. And when we broaden our thoughts about what's possible for us personally, then it actually changes what is possible for other people, and the whole world. We share this planet, we share this human experience. And anything you do to increase what is possible for you has the potential to bless all of us. In my own business, I always think that there is me, there is my business, and there is what my coach calls the third thing, right? The magic or God, right? There is me, there is my business and there is God. And God wants my business in the world, it is a vehicle of growth, and possibility for me. And then, as I stretch what I think is possible for me, it makes more help available to others.
And what I decided to believe is possible for me has gone on to bless a lot of people, and I am so humbled by that. But I also think that it's why you need to believe in the magic. There is magic out there. There is divine help that wants you to understand what's really possible for you. There is divine assistance nudging you, and whispering to you, and quite frankly, making more of what you have made than you could ever do on your own. Make room for the magic. Believe that you are not alone. Believe that you are a child of the greatest creators there are. And to be a person for whom anything is possible is your inheritance. It is your birthright. It is your eternal destiny. To be a person for whom anything is possible, you only have to believe that you are, and then be willing to play, and work, and problem solve as long as you need to to create it, and make a little room for the magic.
