Episode Summary

Our brain wants to tell us that change is too big, too hard, too out of reach—that the difference between where we are and where we want to be is just too far to ever be possible.

But we only ever have to take one step at a time and the best first step is to sign up for coaching. Coaching not only makes any change practical, doable, and possible, it also teaches you how to love yourself all the way there.

My next coaching group starts the first week in April and now is the perfect time to take the first step and sign up.

Welcome to the 100% Awesome Podcast with April Price. You might not know it, but every result in your life is 100% because of the thought you think. And that, my friends, is 100% awesome.

Hello, podcast universe. Welcome to a special bonus episode of the 100% Awesome Podcast. I'm April Price and I wanted to let you know that this is the very last week to sign up for my April coaching group. And I wanted to talk to each one of you that wants to sign up, that wants to be in coaching, that wants to spend the next six-months with me, changing your thoughts, changing your life. But for one reason or another, your brain has talked you out of it, right?

So, maybe you have even been to the website, you've been to the sign-up page. You've been ready to like, push the button to sign up for a call, or to register for the group. And then your brain piped up and gave you a thought like, this is stupid. What am I doing? I shouldn't need help, but this might not even work like that's a lot of money to spend on something that I should be able to do on my own. Like, what am I thinking right now? The reason that I know that you've had these thoughts is because, believe it or not, my brain gave them to me at one point as well.

And I just want to go for a moment back in time, have you go with me back to that point? I know that you get on here and you listen every week and you see where I am now, right? You see me in sort of the transformation, certainly not the finish line. Like, I'm going to keep growing, and expanding my whole life, but you have seen me in transformation. You see the April who has a routine, and a fitness goal, and a business, and really incredible relationships with my children, and my husband, and especially with myself and like, you see me at peace with who I am. And you see a woman who loves her life and you think, yeah, well, of course you love it, there's a good reason for that. Like, everything in your life is awesome, right? But I want you to know that where I started was a million miles from here, and when I found coaching, like before I started coaching, like, I know I've told you this before, but I really, truly did hate myself for so many reasons.

I hated and resented my husband and I told him that often, like I, I worried about my kids. I regretted everything I had done in raising them. I was disappointed with myself in every single area of my life, and I had tens of thousands of dollars in debt. We lived in this rented house because we had lost our house. I was 35-40 pounds heavier, and extremely out of shape like my back hurt all the time, and I had had cancer when I was a kid and I believed, like, really and truly, it was only a matter of time until I had cancer again. And like most days, I thought the sooner the better, the sooner I die, the less misery me and my family will be in. And I spent my life like numbing myself with like QVC. I would watch QVC all night long in order to be able to sleep, and I would numb myself with food. Every day I would go buy lunch somewhere, and put it on a credit card because like, it felt good for those like 10-minutes to like, eat that food.

And like whatever hopes, and dreams, and like thoughts that I had about things that I wanted to accomplish in my life those had long since disappeared. I felt like had no talents, no abilities, nothing to even contribute to this world, and no desire even to do it. And I had no idea how to change any of it. And one day I read a post on Instagram, I followed a friend where when our kids were little, we lived on the same street. I hadn't seen her for years and she made an offer for coaching for nutrition and weight loss coaching. And listen, I like read that Instagram post, I had tried to lose weight for years, and I read that post and the first thing my brain was said like, yeah, right, like that will never work for you. But then, I had a thought and honestly, like it was the one thought that changed everything else. And the thought that came in my mind was, if she can do it, maybe I can do it. If she can do it, maybe I can do it.

Like, I had known her a long time, I knew that she wasn't like extraordinary, I knew she was just a human like me. I knew that she wasn't a person that was born athletic or or a muscle, which I thought you had to like, be at the time in order to be able to lose weight. And I thought, if she can do it, I can do it. And I started coaching with her when they started to change how I thought about myself. I started to make small changes in my life and I started to get just the tiniest hint of confidence as I made progress there. And when I hit my first goal in weight loss, I had another thought and that thought was If I can change my body, maybe I can change something else. Like, if I can change this thing in my life, like maybe there's something else in my life, I could change as well. Like, I still don't believe I could change most of it, right? But I was like, maybe I could just change one other thing, right?

And that led me to finding the Life Coach School Podcast, and at the time, I didn't even know what a life coach was, I didn't know that was a thing, let alone did I know they had a school, right? But anyway, I binged everything I could get my ears on on this podcast. And about five- months after being exposed to those ideas and those thoughts on the podcast, I hired my first life coach. And the whole reason that I'm telling you this story is for you to see that like when you look at your life, just like when I looked at my life, all I could see was the enormity of the mess, like the colossal, insurmountable mess in front of me, the mess that was my life. But change happens one step at a time, and really one thought at a time like my life did not magically transform.

I had one thought, if she can do it, I can do it. And then, I had another thought, if I can change that, maybe I can change something else. And step by step, thought by thought I have changed my life and maybe where I am today feels really far from where you are. Maybe not, right? Maybe you are farther along. But I got here, not by starting at a different place than you, but by continually taking one step at a time. And it will be the same for you, no matter where you are, no matter where you are in your journey of life, in your creation of your life. If you have somewhere else you want to go, if there are things that you want out of your life, you will get there. Taking one step at a time.

And I recently was listening to Colin Brady, who is the first guy to like, go across Antarctica without power, right? Like without motor like he walked across Antarctica with a sled carrying all his gear, and all his food and everything he liked across the entire continent. And he said, like as he and his wife were like thinking about doing this event, they called it the impossible first because nobody had ever done it, and like everybody said it was impossible. Like, it's impossible to carry as much food as you need to get across. And so, they just called their whole excursion the impossible first. And he said that first day, like he could barely move that sled like he had these goals and he was like, I could barely put one foot in front of the other. And like, he's like, I worked for like an hour or two hours and the sled had, like barely moved. And so he called her on this satellite phone and he was just like, I don't know, maybe it can't be done right. Like, I can't even get one mile. There's no way I can go a thousand miles, right? Like, it's just I can't even get one mile, I can't even contemplate my brain can't even like, think about how I would do with this a thousand of these right? And his wife said, "Colin, you don't have to go a thousand miles, you just have to get to the first weigh station. What's your next weigh station? And like he looked at the map.

He told her where it was and and she's like, no matter what. The only thing you have to do today is get to that weigh station and no matter what, I don't want you to stop until you get to that weigh station. And she just broke it down to like, we are not crossing Antarctica today. We are getting to the next way station. And that's how we get there, we get there one way station at a time. And from that way, station to the next. And we're only going to get to that first one. One step at a time and those steps will accumulate it. And those miles will accumulate and your results will stack up. And I just want to tell you that your brain looks at your life, at where you are, at your mass, at, at what you want and how far you are from what you want. And it says it's too far, it's too hard and it's going to take too long. And you're not strong enough enough, smart enough and you're not disciplined enough and you're just not made with the right stuff.

And it'll tell you that what I'm offering you here through coaching to create a life you love that that's not actually available to you, it's not for you and that you can't have it, but because it's just too hard and too much for you to create. And I want you to know that your brain is wrong. And you're not going to do it all at once, you're just going to take it one way station one goal, one step at a time. One thought at a time. And the first step, the best step that you can make is hiring a life coach and, dare I say, hiring me to be your coach it will make all the steps you're going to take easier when you get stuck, when you get discouraged. Coaching will show you the thoughts that are in your way and what you need to think next. It will help you love yourself through all those steps, like we cannot wait till we get to the top of the mountain or to the independent Arctic or to the like till we clean up all the quote unquote mess to love ourselves. Because this is a long journey and coaching helps you love yourself along the way. And it shows you the truth about what's always in your way, which is always just the thoughts in your head.

My whole life changed because a coach invited me to coaching, invited me to something else, and I want to invite you and now is the perfect time to start. Now is the perfect time to take that first step so they can start accumulating. It does add up, it does make a difference. Last night, I was talking to David in bed and he just like as we were drifting off, he was just like, He's like, I wonder, you know, April, do people realize like, do they really realize how far you've come because he's lived with me, right? And like five years ago, I was just thinking about, like five years ago in the fall of 2017, we have this picture of me and David. We're standing in Sedona. He had talked us into going on this family hike and like, I was so out of shape, I was so miserable, I was hot. I was like, I was so mad at him for even suggesting it. And just like so like fed up with my life and mostly by who I was, by my attitude, by my anger, by my like, just like. All the things I wasn't doing, I wasn't showing up like I was, just I look at that picture and I just remember like the misery I felt in being me. And, you know, this fall about the exact same time, just five years later, I'm going to be climbing and the equivalent of Mount Everest. I'm doing an event with my son and my brother, my sister-in-law and and we're climbing the equivalent of Mount Everest, twenty-nine thousand twenty-nine feet.

And, like, maybe five years sounds like a lot of time, but when I think of like the progress, the change, the difference in the way I think about myself, the difference in my capacity, the difference in like the hope and like expansion of my dreams and my possibility and what I'm going to do with my life like it is amazing what can happen one step at a time? I kept taking steps. I kept changing my thoughts. I kept getting coached and my life kept expanding. My results kept accumulating. But it all happens one small thought choice at a time. And the first one that I want you to believe is if she can do it, I can do it and then sign-up for coaching. It's not dumb, it's not frivolous, it's not shameful, you shouldn't already know how it is the most important choice you can ever make because it is the first step to creating the life you want.

And I am so glad that I got help with that, that I allowed myself to ask for help and believe that I could have something different in my life that you didn't just have to wait it out and wait for, like cancer to take me out. I know that you have to overcome a lot of objections and feedback and negative thoughts and negative feelings from your brain to sign up for coaching. But it is such good practice because that is exactly how you are going to get all the things you want by overcoming what your brain says, by overcoming its negative feedback and its like negative emotion and believing something else, choosing something else for yourself, for your life. Because the only thing that is between you and anything you want is a thought that can be questioned one at a time. And that, my friends, is 100% awesome. I want to invite you to coaching.
