Episode Transcript

Welcome to the 100% Awesome Podcast with April Price, you might not know it, but every result in your life is 100% because of the thought you think. And that, my friends, is 100% awesome!

Hello, podcast universe! Welcome to a little bonus episode of the 100% Awesome podcast. I'm April Price, and as many of you might know by now, the applications for my group coaching program open today. Today, Yeah! So, I thought I would take this chance to remind you of that, and also give you a little bit of encouragement if you are thinking about signing up.

So, the group program that I'm offering is called Made for More, and I think each of us was made for more. And I think each one of us can create more of whatever we want in our lives, I think that is our right as human beings, as children of God. So, this coaching program is going to be a very small group, and we're going to be meeting every week, starting the first week in January, every week for six months. And I'm going to teach you all the tools, and concepts that will allow you to understand, and manage your brain so that you can overcome all the limiting beliefs that are holding you back, so that you can get your brain out of the way, and get the life you really want.

I'm going to coach you, and I'm going to help you see through that coaching how your thinking is the problem, how it's always the problem. And I'm going to show you how to question the thought your brain gives you, and choose to think something else. And in the group, you're going to be able to see me coach other people, which will allow you to have some insight, and breakthroughs that sometimes only come when we can recognize our own patterns in the way that someone else is thinking. It's really, really powerful. So, from January until June, we are going to work together every week, so that you can get the most out of this life and the next. And I have been thinking a lot about that phrase, "get the most out of this life, and the next." And I just wanted to share a couple of thoughts about that with you today.

2:30
So, the other day I saw this meme that said, "I need to get my life together, but I'm kind of waiting to see if the world is going to end before I put any real effort in." I sent that to my daughter, I'm like, "This is so true!" One of the reasons that it is so funny is because it is true, isn't it? Like a lot of us feel like we want to get our life together, right? We want to get more out of our life, and make the most of our time here on Earth, but we're kind of waiting, right? But what are we waiting for? Sometimes we're waiting for it to get easier, right? Or for it to just happen somehow. Some of us are waiting for our kids to grow up, or for the stressful part to be over first, or for a better time, or the right time, or enough time.

For me, I was always waiting to be a different person, first. I wanted to live my life differently and make the most of my time on Earth, but I thought that I was the problem and I didn't know how to solve that, right? And so, we are waiting. We are waiting to do the thing. We are waiting to be better somehow. We are waiting to just stop going through the motions, and enduring our life. We're just waiting. And I just want to remind you that this is your life right now, you're not going to get this day again. This is your life, and you get to live it any way you want! You don't have to wait, and you don't have to settle because you think what you really want just isn't possible for you. It is! You are entitled to make the most of your time here on Earth. And what's crazy is that we think that there are so many blocks to getting what we want to, getting the life we want. We think there are so many barriers, and reasons that we can't get what we want, why we're not capable of it, or why it's different or harder for us. But the only block, the only block ever to getting what you want while you're here on Earth is your own brain. And I think if we really knew that, if we really knew that our thoughts were the only thing in the way, we would stop messing around and learn how to manage them and be in charge of our brain.

It's not easy to overcome the factory programming of your human brain, right? That's the whole challenge of being a spiritual being, in a physical human body. But it is 100% possible. Your brain is powerful, but you are more powerful, and all the good stuff in your life is just waiting for you to learn how to manage your brain. So, I want to share a quick idea with you that I hope will help you in coaching. We talk about an idea called our "self-concept." So, your self-concept is just the collection of thoughts that you have about yourself, it's how you see yourself, it's who you think you are. And then, everything in your life, the way that you show up in the world, the way you interact with other people, the things that you accomplish in your life, the things you do on a daily basis, everything, everything is coming down stream of your self- concept. Downstream of what you believe about yourself, meaning the beliefs that you have about yourself are creating everything else in your life. The way you act, and behave, and love, and talk, and achieve, all of that is a result of your self-concept. It's all coming downstream of the thoughts that you have about yourself.

6:08
So, I was talking to a client the other day, and we were talking about how I was able to change so much in my life in such a short amount of time. And she was asking me like, "How did you do that? How did you create so much change in two or three years?" And as we talked, and coached, I realized it was because I had dramatically changed my self- concept. The thoughts that I have about myself today, compared to the thoughts I had about myself three years ago, are significantly different. I have built a completely different self-concept on purpose, and that has created a life that I love living. That's all. And then all the things I did, all the behaviors I changed, all the habits, and choices that I made, all of that happened almost automatically as I changed my self-concept. As I change those thoughts that I had about myself, all of it just came downstream of a radically different self-concept. I learn to think differently about me, and that changed the way that I was showing up in my life. And that is what I'm going to help you do. As we coach together in Made for More, we are going to change your self-concept so that you can do what you really came to Earth to do, and make the most of your Earth-life experience.

I'm going to help you question the thoughts you have about yourself, and teach you how to think about yourself in a radically different way that is going to change everything else in your life. I think in order for each of us to fulfill our mission on Earth, and become who God wants us to be, like make the most of this life, and prepare us for the next, it requires work on our self-concept. It requires us not to just take our brains word for who we are, and what we're capable of, but to instead believe new things about ourselves. And that will allow us to tap into our unlimited capacity to do even impossible things.

So, the other day I was thinking about this, and I had this kind of profound realization, and I realized that Christ was the perfect example of this. Christ dared to believe that he was the Savior long before he performed the actual saving act for all mankind. Christ had the self-concept of our Savior before he could be the Savior. Like, do you remember when he's in the synagogue, and they're reading from Isaiah? And he says, I am who you're reading about today. The scriptures fulfilled in front of you, right? He was he was already saying, I am the Savior. It was already who he was. It was what he believed about himself. Even though he had not yet performed the saving act, he didn't say, I'm going to be the Savior, or my goal is to be the Savior, or I'm going to try really hard to be the Savior, or someday I want to be the Savior.

He said, I am the Savior. I am the Messiah. And we look at that and we say, well, yeah, of course he did, right? But that's only because we are reading the story afterwards. We are reading after he performed the Atonement, after the saving. But think about how brave, and bold he had to be to believe, and claim that title before he had done it. He had a human mother, which meant he also had a human brain. A brain that told him all the things that your brain tells you, that maybe he can't do this, and maybe he's not good enough, or strong enough, or what if he can't do it right. And he also had the adversary against him who challenged his claims of Saviorship and sonship, right? Satan heard his self-concept and said, "Like, oh, yeah, prove it. Turn these rocks into bread!" "Save yourself from the temple." Christ had challenges to his self-concept all around him. The Jews in the temple said, Hey, no, aren't you that guy from Nazareth, right? When he told them his self-concept, they're like, "No, you're just Joseph's son. He had to believe that that was who he was, that he was the Messiah, that he was the Savior.

10:11
In order to do the work that God gave him to do, he had to believe some amazing things about himself. And what I want you to see is that his self-concept came first. Before he could show up in the world as the Savior, he had to believe he was the Savior. He was the literal embodiment of the Savior long before he actually performed the saving work. And his self-concept allowed him to be able to do the almost impossible work that has ever been done. And he had to have that identity before he could actually perform the Atonement, it was already who he was.

And I want to point out two things to you here. First, you don't have to do things to believe things about yourself. And in fact, we need to believe in who we are before we can do anything. Self-concept always comes first, and everything follows that. And second, as Christ so perfectly demonstrates to each of us, self-concept enables us to do the impossible. The thoughts you have about yourself are what will allow you to do impossible things, and reach your God given potential, and fulfill the mission you came to Earth to do. Anything is possible for you to create, and do, and contribute, if you choose to believe the thoughts that create the self-concept of someone who does them. That's it. You only have to decide how you want to think about yourself, despite the doubts of your brain, and the derision of the adversary, which makes managing our minds so important in order to be able to become, and to get the most from our time here on Earth, and to fulfill our eternal destiny.

So, I hope you will think about the way you think about yourself, your own self-concept. And if you want to do that in a powerful way, I hope you will join me in Made for More.
